President's Message

Dear Current and Future Members of International Women Associates,

Welcome to IWA!

I hope you will discover what so many of us have found: a community built on friendship, curiosity, and a genuine interest in one another and the world we share.

Since 1978, IWA has brought together women from more than 50 countries. Some of us were born abroad. Others have lived, worked, or studied internationally, or have family ties across the globe. We come from different backgrounds and experiences, but we share a desire to learn from one another and to build friendships across cultures.

Our founder, Doe Thornburg, envisioned an organization where women from around the world could come together in friendship and understanding. That vision continues to guide us today. Through educational programs, cultural events, opportunities for volunteer service, and philanthropy, we learn from one another, broaden our perspectives, and celebrate the richness of our diversity.

One of the greatest rewards of belonging to IWA is the opportunity to learn about the traditions, histories, and everyday lives of women whose experiences may be very different from our own. Those conversations often lead to new perspectives, lasting friendships, and a deeper appreciation of the world we share.

IWA is sustained by its members. Every lecture attended, committee joined, volunteer hour given, and new member welcomed helps keep our organization vibrant. Whether you come to learn, to share your own experiences, or simply to enjoy the company of women from many backgrounds, your participation matters.

If you are already a member, thank you for being part of IWA. I hope you will continue to explore all that we offer and to share your own interests and talents with others. If you are considering membership, I invite you to learn more about IWA and consider becoming part of our community. I think you will quickly discover why so many women have found a lasting home here.
